Documenting people, culture and river societies

This winter school proposes a study of the river island, Majuli, which is located between the colossal and mythical river Brahmaputra’s ever-changing sandbanks in the state of Assam. The primary objective of this programme is to investigate the idea of the production and consumption of culture and spaces, how the notion of a space is developed, contested, used, and circumvented in apparently small nature-culture inspired river societies settled across Majuli Island. The program is divided into three modules to cover the urban dynamics, housing, spaces, food and culture, and temporal lives of the indigenous people living in the island as a source of indigenous knowledge production.
