The course is offered in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India which will award certificate of participation to passing students. A whopping 7 million housing units of 35 sqm built-up area have been self-built by poor families across Indian cities with subsidy from Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) vertical of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana of MoHUA from 2015 to 2022. PMAY-U is arguably most ambitious urban Housing Scheme in the world with a near completion target of construction of 1.22 million housing units to be delivered under four verticals. BLC has emerged as the most popular vertical. Its high popularity, especially in small and medium cities, stems from the comparative flexibility it offers to beneficiaries to construct standalone houses on their own plot. Across India, innovative practices have been witnessed with regards to land tenure, financing the construction and house design with respect to regulations and thermal comfort. The course will build understanding of these macro(national) and micro(local) perspectives in such innovations.
