A structural engineer’s work majorly involves structural analysis. To design a structure accurately and economically, rigorous calculations are required comprising mathematical formulae to determine various forces, moments, stresses, strains, deflections, etc. For complex structures, manual calculations become more arduous and the usage of computer software in such cases becomes inevitable. For this, a structural designer should have a thorough knowledge of properties and behavior of structural components and materials so as to interpret the computerized results accurately. To cope up with daily competition and demand from the industry, computer software are vital for any structural engineering firm. Software not only improves the efficiency and delivery of the task but also facilitates a given complex project by conveying all the teams involved such as clients, architects, structural designers & construction managers about any design changes, issues, concerns, etc.; adding up to major savings, accuracy and higher productivity. Knowledge of latest relevant software is must for any student especially when he/she enters into a profession along with sound fundamentals. This course has been designed to enhance knowledge of students and expose them to STAAD software, the most common and efficient software used in analysis and design from simple to complex structures.
