Built environment are the spaces planned, designed and constructed by humans to live and work. These may be residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, parks and gardens etc. A sustainable built environment imitates nature and is circular. It uses low-carbon, low-impact, eco-friendly materials, efficient use of resources and follows the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. Deploying these principals preserves and protects natural resources by reducing wastes, energy consumption, emissions, pollution; and make cities sustainable and resilient for its citizens. It reduces per capita environment impact of the cities and also improves the living environment which has positive impact on human health.
The course would focus on various aspects of sustainability which should be included in the built environment. The course would include theory and practice, the learning is proposed to be strengthened with presentation and discussion of case studies and field visits.
